CMM style 3D verification against a CAD modelLike the more basic Renishaw OMV software, the new Renishaw OMV Pro 2.02 allows users of machine tool touch probes to quickly verify the accuracy of free-form and prismatic parts, without ever moving the part from the machine-bed. Both versions of the software have an intuitive graphical interface, a crystal-clear reporting format that makes the software accessible to shop-floor staff, and by enabling users to see exactly what was cut, allow corrections to be made before the part is moved. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)A key difference between Renishaw OMV and Renishaw OMV Pro is the latter’s ability to handle the measurement of geometric components with its geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) wizard. This innovative function helps users through the process of creating standardised report elements based on internationally-recognised symbols. Users can fully compare part measurement results taken on the machine to the manufacturing drawing, before removing the part from the machine and submitting it to a full off-machine inspection process. Within the new version GD&T functionality now includes perpendicularity, parallelism, angularity, linear dimension, surface profile, line profile and concentricity. Multiple alignmentsRenishaw OMV Pro uses a measured alignment to guarantee accurate measurement results. Version 2.02 also adds the ability to use two or more alignments in a program, which is a significant benefit to users working with components on multi-axis machines or with large or flexible components. Support for multi-axis machine toolsFor users choosing the optional multi-axis module, Renishaw OMV Pro 2.02 now has an ‘Auto Orient’ function that allows the touch probe to be automatically oriented into a suitable position for measuring features, without requiring the user to manually input the required angle. Users of the existing software and multi-axis module already benefit from increased confidence in the programming of touch probe routines with full machine simulation. This simulation capability is especially powerful when developing programs for complex geometries, common in multi-axis machine tool environments. Renishaw OMV Pro software can quickly simulate and detect collisions involving the part, machine, or probe, before running the program on a machine tool, avoiding potentially costly breakages and machine downtime. Configurable measurement reportsGraphical and numerical reporting is configurable, allowing feature parameters to be toleranced and displayed. For example, graphical reporting allows measured values to be displayed using colour-coded surface ‘confetti’ points, call-out labels or in-place values. Within version 2.02, labels can now be positioned manually and their orientation is user-configurable, whilst the ‘Screen shot’ function has also been improved to allow the size of the resulting image to be configured.
The new version of Renishaw OMV Pro strengthens Renishaw’s position as the world’s leading supplier of probing software for CNC machine tools. Together with Renishaw OMV and Productivity+™ software, the range now covers every aspect of on-machine measurement, from graphical reporting through to in-process control and process capability measurement.
